Note:
The spoken Chinese Mandarin language has 4
spoken tones. We have attempted to re-create
those below where after each syllable we tell
you (1), (2), (3), or (4) as they correspond
to each of the 4 tones. We encourage you to
complement your Xianzai.com Emergency Chinese
newsletter with a good offline study program.

Tip: Many guide books will tell you that
subway stations and railway stations are not
always safe in China. As long as you are careful
with your belongings they are actually very
safe and the station staff very helpful. Try
to use a little Chinese language and you will
find that people will go out of their way
to help you. Subways are often the best way
to overcome large traffic jams and are usually
very cheap.
