Large Chinese Four Panel Screen with Inset Stone
Chinese folding screens, which served originally
as partitions painted with serious works, were not intended
to be moved around fre¬quently. As with most Asian
things there is symbolism in everything in the painting.
For instance this crane stands for long life because of
their long necks, the plum tree in the painting is first
to flower, and therefore symbolizes new beginning and
fertility.
