Note:
The spoken Chinese Mandarin language has 4
spoken tones. We have attempted to re-create
those below where after each syllable we tell
you (1), (2), (3), or (4) as they correspond
to each of the 4 tones. We encourage you to
complement your Xianzai.com Emergency Chinese
newsletter with a good offline study program.

* Tip: Seeing a movie at the cinema
in China is a great cultural experience. Although
you can see Hollywood movies in most cities
these days in China, it's best to try to get
along to a locally made film.
Chinese
cinema-goers are a little more enthusiastic
than their counter-parts in the west. Chinese
cinemas are noisy and a little crowded sometimes
and in many, people can smoke during the movie.
Regardless of the differences, you will find
yourself laughing at the same time and crying
together proving that people have more in
common than they do in differences.
