Note:
The spoken Chinese Mandarin language has 4
spoken tones. We have attempted to re-create
those below where after each syllable we tell
you (1), (2), (3), or (4) as they correspond
to each of the 4 tones. We encourage you to
complement your Xianzai.com Emergency Chinese
newsletter with a good offline study program.

* Tip: It has happened to most of us
at some stage - your mobile phone is either
lost or stolen. Despite the fact that it is
a real inconvenience, it's not something to
panic about.
The first thing you should do is report it
stolen to the police. They will do some paperwork
for you and give you a copy of their report.
You will need the report if you have insurance
for your phone.
Most of the time you will still be able to
use your old phone number when you buy a new
mobile phone. Just explain what happened to
the phone shop and they should be able to
arrange everything for you.
China does not have a major problem with petty
crime, but it pays to keep your eye on your
phone if you don't want it to disappear.
